Skate Awards, SAFER barriers

The 11th Annual TransWorld Skate Awards were last Friday at the Avalon in Hollywood. I’ve gone the last 6 or 7 years and always seem to have a good time. On his Twitter account, Tony Hawk summed it up:

“on my way to 11th annual TWS Awards. The event should win it’s own award for most alcohol consumed in Hollywood.” 6:07pm June 12th – @tonyhawk

Pics and vids are up on Skateboarding.com

There was a gnarly crash in the final laps of a NASCAR Mexico race down in Pueblo, Mexico just east of Mexico City on Sunday. I don’t want to post the video but it’s out there if you want to see it. Race leader Carlos Pardo was leading the field and was nudged from behind and slammed into the inside wall. The car basically disintegrated on impact. Reminded me of Gordon’s crash last year in Vegas when he nudged Kenseth and crashed hard inside (no SAFER barrier but I think they have them there now.) In Mexico, the part of the wall that Carlos hit is curved and runs perpendicular to the inside wall of the track. Essentially, he ran into a flat wall and was pronounced dead 45 minutes later.
