Flaming Lips To Cover Dark Side of the Moon Live On New Year’s Eve – The Flaming Lips will be covering Dark Side of the Moon in it’s entirety for a New Year’s Eve show in Oklahoma City. Also scheduled to appear with the band is Henry Rollins and Peaches. Just last month they appeared on Morning Becomes Eclectic and covered Pink Floyd’s Eclipse.PitchFork.com

JimmieChandraThe Jimmie Johnson Foundation Donates Nearly $1 Million – NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson on Monday awarded nearly $1 million in education grants to school districts in California, North Carolina and Oklahoma. The Johnsons (Jimmie and his wife Chandra) awarded the California grants at a special ceremony at Crest Elementary, in El Cajon, Calif., a school the driver attended. That school received $45,900 to create hands-on activities in science, technology, health and fitness, the arts, and after school programs. – Yahoo!

Huckabee’s Fatally Bad Judgement – The suspect in Sunday’s shooting deaths of four police officers near Seattle was granted clemency 9 years ago by then Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. Maurice Clemmons was convicted of aggravated burglary and theft of property in 1989 when he was 17. Huckabee granted Clemmons clemency in 2000 citing his age at the time he committed the crimes. However, Clemmons returned to prison a few months later after a parole violation. In 2007, Mitt Romney criticized Huckabee for his part in authorizing the release of convicted murderer and rapist Wayne Dumond back in 1999. Not long after his release, Dumond was convicted of raping and murdering another woman in Missouri and suspected of another rape in Arkansas but died in prison before going to trial. – Salon.com, CBSNews.com
