Pastor Joe Helms delivered the pre-race prayer at last night’s NASCAR Nationwide race in Nashville. He thanked the Heavenly Father for the many things including: “the mighty machines you brought before us”, “Roush and Yates partnering to give us the power we see before us tonight”, “GM performance technology”, “Goodyear Tires that bring performance and power to the track”, “my smokin’ hot wife”, and then he ended it with “…in Jesus’ name, boogity, boogity, boogity, amen.” – Deadspin

In that NASCAR requires pre-race inspection of each vehicle before it is allowed to race, following the Nashille Nationwide pre-race activities, maybe they should consider doing the same with invocations.
For those of you who thought Pastor Helms pre-race invocation was “inappropriate”, tell me all the other “pre-race” prayers that you remember? I bet you never forget this one and I also bet if his weekly sermons are as passionate as this prayer, his church is packed every Sunday! I for one love it!
As a lifelong Southern Baptist, I gotta tell you, I teared up during this beautiful invocation! If more of our preachers would get their heads outta their scripted notes and speak off the cuff (like Jesus did!) we’d get more done and enjoy it a lot more … just like this prayer! I’m one of those old time fundamentalists – in favor of more FUN and less MENTAL! Go get ‘em, Brother! Boogity, boogity, boogity, amen brother!
