The 5-9, 215-pound former All-America running back from Youngstown State spent the better part of his first two NFL seasons on the practice squads of the Redskins and Baltimore Ravens before getting an opportunity to play last season for the Redskins. In nine games in ’09, Mason averaged just under 4.0 yards per carry, toting the ball 32 times for 127 yards. He will attempt to earn a roster spot on a team in San Diego that averaged just 3.3 yards per carry last season.
“We’ve followed his progress through his young career,” said General Manager A.J. Smith, “and when he came available, we decided to give him an opportunity to earn a spot with the Chargers.” – Full Story
Milka Duno has signed a deal with Dale Coyne Racing that will allow her to race the full 2010 Indy schedule. The Venezuelan racer has started 20 IRL races since 2007 but this will be her first time running a full season. According to her Wikipedia entry, Milka is best known for holding the record of highest finish for a female driver in the 24 Hours of Daytona. I would have to disagree though and would say she’s better known for her boobs or big mouth.
At any rate, I don’t think Milka Duno and Danica Patrick get along very well. Here’s a video from an incident at Mid-Ohio in 2008.
As the free agency deadline approaches, the San Diego Chargers have made a couple of surprise moves by releasing their biggest man and keeping their littlest. The UT is reporting the Chargers have released All-Pro veteran defensive tackle Jamal Williams and placed a first and third round tender on running back Darren Sproles.
Jamal Williams has been with the team for 12 seasons after being drafted out of Oklahoma St. in the 2nd round of the ‘98 draft. Williams would have been due a $1-million bonus and was scheduled to earn $5-million next year. He was limited to one game last year when he suffered a triceps injury in the first game of the season against Oakland Raiders. It’s been a pleasure watching Jamal dominate opposing offensive linemen all these years and his presence in the middle will definitely be missed and should be remembered as one of the all-time great Chargers.
Darren Sproles was told last week by Chargers officials that he would not be tendered and would be allowed to test the free agent market. However, today the Chargers placed the first and third round tender on him which will increase his 2010 salary to over $7-million. I think it’s unlikely the Chargers will be willing to pay that much for him so I’m guessing a long term deal or trade is on the horizon.
Kassim Osgood is reportedly on his way out the door as well after according to his Twitter account (@kassimosgood) he was told there was a 0% chance of him getting any playing time at WR. The special teams standout has aspirations of playing receiver in the NFL but the Chargers have better options so the former SDSU Aztec will test free agency.
With the release of Jamal, how about packaging Sproles, Cromartie and SD’s 1st round pick to the Rams for their 1st pick and get Suh…? Yeah, I know, dream on…never happen.
DC Shoes co-founder and Rally Car racer Ken Block drove his new Monster World Rally Team’s Ford Fiesta to the team’s first victory at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in Missouri. Block recently made the switch from Subaru to the Fiesta. The win is Block’s 5th straight victory at the 100 Acre Wood Rally but the first for the Ford Fiesta in a North American Stage Rally and the first for Fiesta in Rally America competition. BMX legend Dave Mirra finished 4th in his Subaru Impreza while daredevil Travis Pastrana had to withdraw due to mechanical failures after holding the lead for a good portion of the race. – Read More
Here’s video of Block and his navigator Alex Gelsomino testing at the 100 Acre event…
I fucking love this guy… Haha! The dood that originally posted this video, obviously not a NASCAR fan. It’s Jimmie Johnson, not Jimmy. Has his name not been in print enough throughout the last four seasons? I saw Jimmie’s interview. In regard to Kevin’s comments, he said “to hell with him…”
As the NFL offseason wallows in the ugly business side of sport, real life competition continued across Europe as the world’s most exclusive club tournament wrapped up the first leg of the round of 16 competition on Wednesday. Highlights included manager Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan team defeating his former Chelsea squad in Italy by a 2-1 margin. First fixture surprises were provided by Portuguese side FC Porto’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal and Manchester United’s 3 valuable away goals at AC Milan. Man U had never scored at the San Siro in 4 matches, although 1 goal came off Darren Scholes’ laughable swing and miss.
Besides Man U, France’s Bordeux was the only other away side winner, setting themselves up for the next round if they can draw or win at home in the 2nd leg. Several remaining matches could be decided on the tournament’s intriguing ‘away goals’ tiebreaker rule, which entices and rewards the visiting side for aggressive play. All visitors with the exception of Spain’s Real Madrid scored an important road goal.
The return legs of the competition will be played on March 09-10 and 16-17. Adopt a team (not Chelsea, don’t be that guy) and catch a game, it’s not a bad way to spend the lunch hour, especially if you’re lucky enough to catch a visiting European hottie supporting her team.
(Sorry about the picture of the hot Italy fan, I couldn’t find a girl in club team’s gear. Post one in the comment section if you find a good one I won’t mind. – JO)

According to Yahoo! news, Phelps decided he would not compete in the Olympics after the age of 30. At the London Games in 2012, he will be 27 years old. – Story
DAYTONA BEACH, FL—Construction crews working to patch the rippled and broken asphalt of Daytona International Speedway reduced traffic to a single lane during last Sunday’s Daytona 500, resulting in average speeds of 35 miles per hour. “It’s bad enough that they can’t get this fixed during the week,” said race winner Jamie McMurray, who finished in just over 15 hours. “And NASCAR doubles the fines for speeding in work zones, so there was nothing we could do.” Disagreeing with McMurray was Emilio Ramirez, operator of the No. 0563 Rolaids/Chick-fil-A Caterpillar road grader, who earned time-and-a-half for the race and called the event a “rousing success.” – TheOnion.com
