The Jumping Turtle Restaurant and Grill’s owners on Monday appealed a Dec. 31 ruling that upheld San Marcos’ decision to revoke the business’ entertainment permit, paving the way for the matter to go to the City Council.
The Jumping Turtle can continue hosting live music shows pending the council hearing’s outcome, she said.
The business attracted little city attention until last May, when San Marcos officials added new restrictions to The Jumping Turtle’s entertainment permit.
The new rules limit the business to two live shows per week, restrict it from charging a cover fee, and ban people under 21 from the premises when alcohol is being served and a band is playing, among other things.
City officials have said underage drinking, noise and other problems at the establishment led to the stricter rules – allegations that Hall and Mouradian say are untrue or exaggerated. – More Turtle

2/3/10 – The Jumping Turtle Bar and Grill and its owners filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday that accuses San Marcos of harassment, deprivation of civil rights and other harmful actions and seeks injunctions to stop them, the business’ attorney said Wednesday.

Wow… what a game! The Baltimore Ravens walked into Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Sunday and handed the once mighty New England Patriots an embarrassing loss. Ravens QB Joe Flacco goes 4/10 for 34 yard with no touchdowns and one interception in a WIN, a win! wtf? This marks the Patriots first home playoff loss since 1978. What a bunch a losers! Is this the end of a dynasty? Probably not. Brady, Moss, Welker will still be there next year. They just suck ass for now and its hilarious to watch. Especially that run defense. Wow… that defense looks like France circa 1940. Wave your white flags you bunch of pussies. Say hello to the Steelers.

On Sunday at 8pm PST on FOX, “The Simpsons” is airing its 450th episode. “Once Upon a Time in Springfield” will be followed by an hourlong documentary from Morgan Spurlock (“30 Days,” “Super Size Me”), fancifully titled “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice.”
“I think we could do it for another 20 years, actually,” Matt Groening, “Simpsons” uber-creator, told The Associated Press at a recent “Simpsons” tribute by Los Angeles’ Paley Center for Media. Then he dissolved into giggles.

A “plastic soup” of waste floating in the Pacific Ocean is growing at an alarming rate and now covers an area twice the size of the continental United States, scientists have said.
The vast expanse of debris – in effect the world’s largest rubbish dump – is held in place by swirling underwater currents. This drifting “soup” stretches from about 500 nautical miles off the Californian coast, across the northern Pacific, past Hawaii and almost as far as Japan.
Charles Moore, an American oceanographer who discovered the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” or “trash vortex”, believes that about 100 million tons of flotsam are circulating in the region. Marcus Eriksen, a research director of the US-based Algalita Marine Research Foundation, which Mr Moore founded, said yesterday: “The original idea that people had was that it was an island of plastic garbage that you could almost walk on. It is not quite like that. It is almost like a plastic soup. It is endless for an area that is maybe twice the size as continental United States.” The “soup” is actually two linked areas, either side of the islands of Hawaii, known as the Western and Eastern Pacific Garbage Patches. About one-fifth of the junk – which includes everything from footballs and kayaks to Lego blocks and carrier bags – is thrown off ships or oil platforms. The rest comes from land.
Leaving behind his painterly pedigree in a flurry of wood chips, sawdust and carving off-cuts, British artist Ben Turnbull’s latest, rather more sculptural exhibition is a lesson in how best to work that trusty British favourite – the artfully veiled shock tactic. With reclaimed wooden school desks as his choice of canvas, Turnbull has delicately carved into seven of the pockmarked, pen-scratched surfaces, leaving the negative imprint of a deadly weapon upon each.
ahhhh… gosh darnit!
With less than a month to go before the scheduled February 1st start of the 33rd America’s Cup match races in Valencia, Spain between Cup defender Alinghi and challenger BMW Oracle/Golden Gate Yacht Club, there are still no announced media arrangements or facilities for coverage of the event.
To make matters worse, the America’s Cup event schedule, from February 1st, 2010 to February 25th, 2010, weather conditions permitting, overlaps television coverage of the XXI Olympic Winter Games, set for February 12–28, 2010, in Vancouver, Canada. -Boats vs Olympics
LOS ANGELES — The company behind a plan to lure the NFL back to Los Angeles said Tuesday that the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills are the first teams it will try to relocate to Southern California.
Majestic Realty Co. managing partner John Semcken said the company is still considering at least seven franchises for a new stadium some 25 miles east of Los Angeles. They also include the San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders.
However, Semcken said the Jaguars and the Bills are at the top of the list because they play in small markets that tamp down their earning potential and because they have little hope of building larger venues in their home regions.
“Jacksonville and Buffalo are two teams in very, very small markets,” Semcken said. “They are teams that have either outdated stadiums or are having trouble filling their stadiums or both.” – Full Report
- Sooo… SD is third, forth? tied with oak? I need to see a full power ranking on this one. But hey, winning a super bowl could only increase the chances of getting a new shiny stadium in this here city. Remember the ‘98 Padres. Great team! Great stadium they got.
